AN MP could break new ground in the home of British politics if his bid to help a North Yorkshire children’s hospice reaches its target – by wearing a onesie in the House of Commons.
Alec Shelbrooke, who represents Elmet and Rothwell, has vowed to don the jumpsuit to work as long as at least £5,000 is raised for Martin House Children’s Hospice at Boston Spa, near Wetherby, which provides care and support for children and young people with life-limiting illnesses.
His contribution to the hospice’s Good Night Sleep appeal – encouraging people to wear their pyjamas to work and raise £120,000 for the charity – was launched this week.
Mr Shelbrooke said he would walk through the Division Lobby of the Commons wearing the onesie if he gets the necessary support.
Donations, which had reached £277 yesterday can be made at Mr Shelbrooke’s JustGiving page or posted to him at the House of Commons, with cheques made payable to Martin House Children’s Hospice.
