A MOTORIST has told of her terror at being the victim of a road rage attack.
The woman, who does not wish to be named, was driving near Holme on Spalding Moor at about 11.30am on Sunday, when she attempted to pull out of a junction and onto the A614, when she realised a car was heading for her, and stopped her manoeuvre.
She said: "I stopped once I saw him and didn't pull out any further but he carried on. I pulled out behind him and he stopped, and was angry at me for trying to pull out.
"He stopped so all the traffic behind me had to stop as well. He jumped out of his car I stupidly wound down the window and he verbally abused me, shouted and swore at me, then put his hand through the open window and grabbed my keys from the ignition.
"My instinct was to stop him but he was so aggressive, I couldn't. He threw the keys across the oncoming traffic, across the road and said 'go get your own f**king keys' and jumped back in his car and sped off."
The woman, who is from the Pocklington area, said she sat "shaking and frightened" in her car, while the motorist in the car behind her helped find her keys. She said she wanted to thank him for his help, but also wanted to warn other motorists who may find themselves in a similar situation.
She said: "It was really frightening. I just think it's so unnecessary to behave like that. He was probably aged 35ish and driving a light blue saloon car but that's all I can remember. I didn't cause any collision and I certainly didn't deserve to be treated like that.
"I'm a lot better now and a lot better after speaking to the police because they reassure you and say you've done the right thing and it makes you feel like someone's there to support you. I just wanted to say thank you to the kind man but also warn other people driving on their own that if that happens don't wind your window down, just pick up your phone and ring the police if you feel threatened."
A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: “Aggressive behaviour is never an appropriate response in any situation. Drivers should always treat other road users courteously and observe the rules of the road. If a traffic violation is witnessed or suspected they should be brought to the attention of police.”
Anyone with information on the incident should phone Humberside Police on 101.
