A RYEDALE couple who first met in a village pub celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary today (April 14).
Lawrence and Patricia Johnson, from Slingsby, near Malton, were introduced at the White Bear Inn, Stillington in 1955.
They were married in All Saints Church, Brandsby on April 14 the following year.
Now aged 91 and 82 respectively, the couple will celebrate 60 years of marriage with family and friends at the weekend.
Mr Johnson was a farmer and Mrs Johnson worked at Claypenny Hospital in Easingwold when they met.
He went on to be a self-employed landscape gardener and his wife a nurse until they retired in 1990 and 1989 respectively.
The couple have three children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
