A NEW partnership will see "bargain-priced" sports massage on offer in a North Yorkshire town.
The Sports Therapy Department at York College has teamed up with the Tadcaster Physio and Sports Injuries Clinic to create the new partnership, which will see students with sports massage qualifications work alongside qualified physiotherapists in the Tadcaster clinic.
Jamie Salter, course leader, said: "As part of the BSc programme, our students are required to undertake a certain number of supervised clinical hours to obtain Society of Sports Therapists accredited status, and this partnership will help them to achieve their goal.
"It also demonstrates how our BSc and Foundation Degree in Sports Therapy programmes collaborate with local companies and facilities to enhance the reputation of the College and the sports therapy profession in general. We’re hopeful this is the start of many more opportunities like this for students."
The students are qualified to provide the sports massage treatment as part of their undergraduate programme, and encouraged to work closely with the clinic’s physiotherapy team.
Therapist Millie Bell is in her final year of the college’s BSc (Hons) degree in Sports Therapy, and previously achieved a 2:1 in the Foundation Degree, massage qualifications at Levels 3 and 4, and specialises in maintenance massage, soft tissue release, trigger points massage and pre and post-event massages.
She said: "The friendly, approachable staff at the clinic actively support me, enabling me to gain hands on experience with my own client base. This includes consultations, massage and clinical note taking."
Treatment cost from £10 for 30 minutes. For more information go to tadcasterphysio.co.uk or phone 01937 833976.
