PLANS to pedestrianise Fossgate could be put to the public within months, a senior councillor has said.

Cllr Ian Gillies, executive member for transport and planning at City of York Council, said he and his Conservative colleagues had drawn up various plans relating to traffic control in the city centre, and said that if they were backed by the coalition partners, the Liberal Democrats, then consultation could begin in the next few months.

He said they covered issues including pedestrianising Fossgate and extending the operating times of other city-centre footstreets.

York Press:

The idea of pedestrianising Fossgate has been discussed numerous times in recent years, and has been supported by many traders, without yet coming to fruition.
