A BIKE shop and cafe in York city centre is to close.

Bicis y mas, in Walmgate, will shut at the end of August after three years selling bikes and accessories alongside an accompanying workshop and cafe.

Owner Jane Thackray said: “We are closing primarily to retire, but the decision was also made by the hard market due to the internet.

“We have really enjoyed the experience, especially the vegetarian and vegan food sector in the cafe. However the final nail in the coffin was the increase in business rates this year.

“We would like to thank our many loyal customers for their support.”

The cafe will stop serving hot food this weekend but drinks and cakes will continue until the shop closure at the end of August.
