YORK City star Richard Cresswell and former Manchester Utd player Jonathan Greening have helped eight-year-old Oscar Hughes raise more than £2,000 for a children’s cancer charity.
The footballers launched more than 1,000 balloons into the air at Dunnington fair on Sunday.
The balloons were sold by Oscar to boost the Yorkshire Candlelighters as he recovers from an operation earlier this year to remove a brain tumour.
Oscar’s mother Marie said many people went to the fair to buy a balloon after reading in Saturday’s Press how Oscar wanted to help other children with cancer.
“The support from our community is truly amazing and we are very thankful for it,” she said.”Oscar was beaming all day!”
Her husband Ian said the footballers both lived in the local area and were happy to give their support.
