SHOPPERS in York are today being encouraged to help women beat breast cancer by taking on a woolly challenge.
Cancer Research UK is inviting people to jump on board an open top bus in Parliament Street to find out about the charity’s Knit The York Wall initiative.
The aim of the campaign, which is the brainchild of Haxby fundraiser Rachel Speight, is to knit enough pink scarves to encircle the city’s bar walls.
The 40-year-old, who is one of three finalists in the Charity Fundraiser Of The Year category of The Press’s Community Pride Awards, has worked out 2,832 scarves will be needed to cover the two-and-a-half mile length of the walls.
Rachel aims to create the pink spectacle on Sunday, November 21, after which each scarf will be sold off to raise at least £5,000 for Cancer Research UK.
Anybody who wants to get involved can pick up a Knit the Wall kit from Ramshambles, in Shambles, for £5.
