HOLLYWOOD film star Sienna Miller has donated her handbag to a charity auction in York.
Miss Miller, who starred in Layer Cake and The Edge Of Love, donated her lambskin “Joyce” Holdall by Katherine Kwei, which sells for $625 (about £400) to the Lord Mayor’s Valentine Ball auction.
York-based mental health charity Our Celebration, one of the Lord Mayor Coun Sue Galloway’s chosen causes alongside the British Heart Foundation, has been sourcing items to sell at the auction.
Ian Savage, Our Celebration fundraising officer, said it was one of the most generous celebrity donations they had had.
He said: “We have a small group of volunteers who write to celebrities asking for items we can sell. We get autographed photos, CDs and books or T-shirts that we can sell on eBay to raise money. We wrote to Sienna Miller’s agent and in the return post was £400-worth of designer handbag that had been owned by her as well so is worth more.
“It is far and away the most stunning piece we have ever got.”
He said they had already received inquiries from across the world about how fans could bid for it.
Other auction items include a signed photograph of Joe Cornish, the football used in the York City v Darlington FA Cup match signed by both teams, and donations from local businesses, including a Nintendo Wii, an iPod and restaurant vouchers.
The ball is at York Racecourse on February 12.
Tickets cost £59 from the civic office and include a four-course meal and entertainment from party band Huge, a casino, Tree Of Life and raffle.
Phone the civic office on 01904 551011 to donate items to auction or raffle.
