ONE of the greatest film epics of all time will get a special screening at York’s Reel Cinema on Sunday.

David Lean’s Lawrence Of Arabia, shot partly on location in Jordan, is a story of British duplicitousness and of the Arab struggle for independence from the Turks during the First World War.

The film won seven Oscars and made stars of Peter O’Toole and Omar Sharif.

The film will be shown at the Reel Cinema at 2.15pm with the proceeds going to support medical aid for Palestininians.

“It is a great film, but what we could not have anticipated when we planned the event months ago was how very relevant it would be to current events in the Middle East,” said Mike Gwilliam, one of the organisers of the screening.

Tickets for the screening cost £7, and can be booked in advance on 01509221155 (key in 13, York site) or at the cinema.
