BATS in North Yorkshire will be logged by conservationists in a new project keep tabs on their welfare.
The Forestry Commission has mounted a survey to check more 200 bat boxes in its woodlands to map the species living across the region.
Bats suffered a dramatic decline in the 20th century and are on the European Protected Species list, but in woods like Dalby Forest, near Pickering, and Wykeham Forest, near Scarborough, new bat-friendly habitats have been created.
