THE next steps towards a masterplan for ensuring York tackles climate change will be taken next week.

City of York Council’s executive will be asked to approve changes to its draft Climate Change Framework and Action Plan, which detail the ways the city will look to deal with the issue in the coming years.

A public consultation on the documents was held earlier this year, with the majority of those who responded backing the creation of a blueprint for addressing the effects of climate change and encouraging residents and businesses to reduce their carbon emissions.

The final plans will include extra measures to promote more environmentally-friendly food initiatives and education programmes, while issues surrounding sustainable transport will be fed into the next stage of the council’s Local Transport Plan.

If they are approved by the council and the local strategic partnership Without Walls, they will map out a co-ordinated approach to climate change and outline what action York will need to take.
