A PUBLIC meeting about an incinerator near a York village has failed to allay fears about the impact the facility could potentially have.

UK Coal and Science City York held the presentation at Escrick Social Club regarding proposals which would produce electricity from an anaerobic digestor, incinerator and gas plant close to the village.

Local councillor Elizabeth Casling said the meeting was very well attended by local residents, but it raised more questions than it answered. Queries about noise and smells failed to be answered satisfactorily.

Coun Casling said: “There were no specifics. It was a bland consultation but that's the whole point as they can then say they have people on board from the local area as there are no specifics to argue about. They were just trying to keep people on side really.

“I think the majority of people in the village are either against it or very unsure about what is being planned and very concerned."

She said a public meeting is now being organised for next month by the parish council and the local incinerator protest group to gauge opinion.

She said that would form the opinion for the Escrick.

The incinerator project is a joint collaboration between Science City York, Peel Environmental and UK Coal, the latter of which owns the site.
