ENVIRONMENTAL campaigners met York Central MP Hugh Bayley to ask for his support in the fight for an international climate change agreement.
The meeting came ahead of next month’s United Nations conference on climate change in Mexico, where campaigners hope the UK Government will push for an agreement on global warming.
Mr Bayley met the campaigners on York’s Millennium Bridge, and said he would take up the campaigners’ concerns with the Government. He said: “The climate change talks in Cancun in a few weeks’ time provide a vital opportunity to get a global deal on climate change.”
Guy Wallbanks, of Friends of the Earth, said climate change would hit poor countries the hardest and warned some parts of the planet may become uninhabitable.
