THE world of worms was brought to life for visitors to one of North Yorkshire’s most famous landmarks over the weekend.

The Wild About Wood Festival at the Arboretum Trust, Kew, at Castle Howard, offered the chance to try worm composting, with children able to collect an identify them.

Other attractions at the event, which was being staged for the third time, included shelter-building, pond-dipping and explorienteering in the Discovery Zone, coracle-padding on the arboretum’s lake, an archery range and tree-climbing.

Organisers also staged displays of traditional woodcrafts and provided the opportunity for visitors to meet hawks and falcons, while musicians entertained the crowds.
