I must agree with Ms Harris of Bishopthorpe about the brilliant performance of Clare Teal at the Theatre Royal (What a treat to see Clare in York, Soapbox, October 27).
The Yorkshire lass and former Radio 2 presenter is an accomplished and exceptionally talented jazz singer, who performs with intense warmth and passion.
There are not many singers around like her, maybe that is why Sony snapped her up with a record contract.
She has sung at Ronnie Scott’s, Glastonbury and the Marlborough Jazz Festival, as well as numerous theatres around the country, and is currently number one in the jazz album charts.
The Theatre Royal in York was a nicely intimate venue and was packed to capacity on the evening. I look forward to her next appearance at Ronnie Scott’s, “the” place for jazz, and thanks to the Theatre Royal for attracting artists of her calibre.
