I have always been passionately against both the EU and the euro. Luckily Britain has also been anti-euro, but regrettably pro-EU.
I have always maintained that having a “one cap fits all” policy was both stupid and unworkable. Ever since the euro was first ever thought about, I warned that treating countries as massively different as Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Denmark the same way and with identical. rules and restrictions as “the second tier” nations like Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain was madness and a recipe for chaos and ultimate failure.
History has always shown how badly those “poorer, less competent” nations always behaved.
Some EU fanatics even wanted some of the ex-communist East European countries within the euro zone – crazy!
Now Greece is to all intents and purposes bankrupt, and the others are in an even worse state than is the UK. Hopefully the whole pack of cards is about to collapse.
I sincerely hope the immensely successful, sensible, hard-working and careful German people will not allow their government to carry out any type of “bail-out”.
Many Germans will only use euros that have a "D" on them, and many Germans, quite correctly, never wanted to lose their superb and hugely strong mighty Deutschmark.
Quite a few French did not want to forego their franc and most Austrians bitterly regret the passing of their Schilling. They, like me, have now been proved right.
