Yes, we have noticed the change in interviewing techniques adopted by television presenters, and totally agree with everything Liz Edge says in her letter (TV “bullying” is such a turn-off, March 5).
Question Time also used to be one of the highlights of our television week, but David Dimbleby seems to be getting worse. Very soon he will not need a panel; he can just get the audience to put the questions to him alone, and can then put his own views across, as he apparently has all the answers. I was of the opinion he was there in the capacity of chairman in order to nominate each panel member to answer the questions presented by the audience. He spends so much time interrupting and giving his views that of late every panel member is not given the opportunity to answer.
I would totally endorse the interviewers you have named who have jumped on the bandwagon, but would like to add Kay Burley of Sky and John Humphries and team on the Today programme on BBC Radio Four.
The media at this moment in time seems to be under the misapprehension that the public want to see debates in which people are humiliated and bullied.
Thank you Liz, you said everything I have wanted to say myself for quite a while. Perhaps this week I can shout at DD during Question Time and know that I have back-up.
