Sainsbury’s has opened the doors of its new Local store in Bootham Row, York, creating eight new jobs.

The new store replaces the old store a few doors down and employs 29 local people in total.

It was opened by the Lord Mayor of York, Coun Sue Galloway, and ten children from Kaleidoscope Nursery.

The new 2,600 sq ft store includes a bakery, three self-scan tills, and an ATM. Store workers are set to take part in a series of fundraising activities throughout the next year to support it’s charity partner, York Blind And Partially Sighted Society, and last week opened a vegetable patch at Kaleidoscope Nursery.

Kaleidoscope also received equipment worth more than £300 on the opening day.
