THE MIghty Boosh and Never Mind The Buzzcocks pop quiz star Noel Fielding is to play York Barbican this autumn on his first solo tour in five years. Tickets go on sale at 9am tomorrow for An Evening With Noel Fielding on October 30.
Fielding, the 40-year-old whimsical comedian, surrealist, actor, artist, DJ and musician from Westminster, London, is best known for his role as Vince Noir in The Mighty Boosh, the BBC radio and television series he co-wrote with comedy partner Julian Barratt, from Leeds.
Fielding has regularly undertaken solo projects too. In January 2012, for example, the first series of his kaleidoscopic character comedy show Noel Fielding’s Luxury Comedy aired on E4.
Half live action, half animated, the series introduced such new Fielding characters as New York cop Sergeant Raymond Boombox, a modern-day Don Quixote called Fantasy Man and Roy Circles, an anthropomorphic chocolate finger with shell shock.
The show starred a number of Mighty Boosh regulars and featured music by Kasabian’s Sergio Pizzorno, and a second series is ready for airing on E4 later this year.
An Evening With Noel Fielding promises stand-up comedy, live animation, music and some of Fielding's TV characters, such as The Moon and Fantasy Man. Muscular support slots will go to the loose stylings of Mike Fielding and the physical lunacy of Tom Meeten.
"You'd be a fool to miss out," says Noel. "Come along, bring your Nan; fancy dress optional."
Tickets cost £25 on 0844 854 2757 or at yorkbarbican.co.uk, or you can buy in person from the York Barbican box office, open Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm.
