IRISH comedian Jason Byrne, “The People’s Puppeteer”, will make his York Barbican debut on September 28 next autumn.

He has hosted three BBC Radio 2 series of The Jason Byrne Show, is the winner of the 2011 Sony Gold Award for Best Comedy, and his inspired brand of high-energy, intelligent lunacy has been tickling the funny bones of Edinburgh Fringe devotees for 14 years.

What’s more, in 2008, he became the first stand-up to sell more than 25,000 tickets there.

His Irish television shows, Up Close And Personal With Jason Byrne and The Byrne Ultimatum, have attracted a following too, and his popularity has spread oversees, where he has performed in New York, Boston, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brussels, Milan, Paris and Australia.

Tickets for Byrne’s September 28 gig are on sale at £17.50 on 0844 854 2757, online at yorkbarbican.co.uk and at the Barbican box office, 10am to 2pm, Monday to Friday.
