NEW work by 26 emerging contemporary artists from York St John University will be showcased at the New School House Gallery, Peasholme Green, York, from today until Saturday.
The Project 26 exhibition is free to the public and will display a variety of contemporary art forms including sculpture, mixed media, new media, 2D works and installation art, created by third-year students as part of their BA course in Fine Art.
“The students have led on the exhibition from its inception to completion,” says Louise McKenzie, York St John’s PR and communications officer.
“The artists have put their hearts into each step of the process, seizing this opportunity as a chance to jump-start their careers and speak personally about their work.”
Natalie Willis, one of the exhibiting artists, says: “Project 26 is a showcase of talented up-and-coming artists presenting ourselves to the public and professionals. We’ve had many successful exhibitions before but this will be our best exhibition yet."
Robert Teed, New School House Gallery co-owner, says: “It’s fantastic to support emerging artists and the variety of work makes for a very engaging show."
Louise says the artists come from a wide demographic, with both young and mature students from different cultural backgrounds, “resulting in an encompassing experience for all walks of life”.
Project 26 will be on view from 6pm to 9pm tonight and 10am to 5pm, tomorrow to Saturday.
