Simon Palmour unveils his latest exhibition at Grays Court, Chapter House Street, York, on Monday when you can meet the York photographer between 6pm and 9pm.
From The Wolds presents monochrome images of the Yorkshire Wolds, both on canvas and as conventional prints.
For the uninitiated, the Wolds are a series of gentle hills and valleys south of the North York Moors that stretch from Hull to the coast east of the Vale of York. The landscape is subtle, being predominantly chalk and creating dramatic sea cliffs at the coast, but it is not classed as an area of outstanding natural beauty or as a national park.
Simon’s photographs seek to capture the essence of the landscape of grasslands in black and white, which gives rise to an elusive and poetic series that conveys the strange loneliness of the Wolds. In the past seven years, he has taken his photography in a new direction with a primarily monochrome series of more abstract images of textures, buildings and landscapes. A selection of these works will be featured alongside his Wolds images at Grays Court. The exhibition will run from Monday to August 31.
