CITY Screen, York, is showing Studio Ghibli’s classic anti-war anime Grave Of The Fireflies (12A) on Sunday at 12.30pm and Monday at 6.45pm to commemorate 25 years since the Japanese film’s release.

Regarded as a masterpiece of the gentre, Hayao Miyazaki’s war story is as wrenching as any live-action movie, depicting a young brother and sister trying to survive alone after their mother is killed in the American fire-bombing raid on Kobe.

City Screen’s marketing manager, Dave Taylor, says: “Sunday’s screening is dubbed into English and, to celebrate the anniversary, will be followed by the opportunity to taste some Japanese cuisine from our friends at YO! Sushi, on Church Street, who will be offering some tasters in the City Screen foyer.”

Monday evening’s screening will be shown in the original Japanese and will be subtitled.
