ENGLISH Touring Opera visits 55 venues each year to give 110 performances.
Three of those in 2013 will be at York Theatre Royal: Mozart’s comic opera Cosi Fan Tutte tonight; Verdi's Simon Boccanegra, tomorrow; and Donizetti's The Siege Of Calais on Saturday. Each starts at 7.30pm.
Winner of the 2013 award for Best Contribution to the Operatic Scene in the Whatsonstage.com Opera Awards, English Touring Opera will be bringing a full orchestra, lavish sets and world-class singers to York.
The company's glamorous, funny and entertaining new production of Così Fan Tutte is sung in English and exudes youthful energy in stylish period dress.
Simon Boccanegra, sung in Italian with English surtitles, is a sweeping drama wherein Simon returns from exile to a den of political scheming and intrigue in Genoa and sets about rising to the highest office and searching for his long-lost daughter.
The Siege Of Calais tells the true story of the Burghers of Calais, who offered up their lives to save their city from the besieging English army. Donizetti's opera combines an unusually direct, dramatic narrative and moving ensemble pieces with his melodic music.
