The mature, yet still fresh, indie sounds of Hot Club De Paris filled City Screen's Basement bar on Tuesday night.

The British trio blasted out some familiar sharp pop tunes, and the room fell silent when they morphed into a barbershop quartet, minus the fourth person.

Hot Club De Paris were definite crowd pleasers with their happy pop tracks making the crowd dance until the end. They brought a special energy that simply cannot be portrayed through their recordings alone, making them a must-see live band.

The mighty K!tes had kicked off the night and were outstanding as usual. The four lads seemed more confident than way back in December when they made their debut; they were consistent throughout. It seems they are fast becoming one of the big names on York's gig scene. To carry on with the on-going indie theme, Hot Recruit were next on the bill, sounding like a fusion of Good Shoes and The Wombats, with a dash of the catchy hooks from Scouting For Girls just for good measure.

In their last gig in York until the summer, they played an exceedingly passionate set that went down a storm. They treated us to Kickin' & Screamin', which transmitted a kinetic energy between band and crowd.

Typified by playing Curfew dressed up to the nines with amazing harmonies from guitarist Warden, Hot Recruit performed an energetic and happy set, setting up the headliners a treat.
