WITH the tag of “one of the bands of 2010” nailed firmly to their door, it was no surprise to see that Two Door Cinema Club’s Fibbers gig was sold out and packed to the rafters with eager fans and curious listeners.
The hype has been brewing about this indie electro pop band from Bangor and Donaghadee in Northern Ireland for a while, especially since they were featured in the BBC’s Sound of 2010 Poll, which was decided upon by nearly 200 British “taste-makers” in December 2009.
Their following has grown following the release of a number of singles and EPs on French record label Kitsuné Music, and they are now on an extensive UK tour to promote their debut album, Tourist History, which is out this month.
Two Door Cinema Club have opened for a number of bands, including The Wombats and Foals in the past, and they last played at Fibbers in November.
They obviously made an impression then, as you couldn’t move in the venue, and it was quite hard to see the stage from the back of the room. But down at the front, you could see the crowd were going mad for this outfit, which has been compared with the likes of Death Cab For Cutie and Broken Social Scene, and had a Franz Ferdinand-esque groove to their sound.
Their punchy pop tunes, such as Do You Want It All, This Is the Life and Something Good Can Work, had the crowd singing along, and it won’t be long until you see these boys on a much larger stage.
