JAZZ singer Jacqui Dankworth is determined “the show must go on” in memory of her father, Sir John Dankworth, who died in February.

In between a busy gigging schedule promoting her third solo album, last autumn’s Back To You, she is finishing the album on which she and Sir John started collaborating last year.

Sessions are taking place at Air Studios in London, where Jacqui has been recording a “mix of beautiful new pieces by Sir John, written shortly before his death, and breathtaking arrangements of some standards”.

In addition to her formidable rhythm section, the tracks are split between backing from a string ensemble and a heavyweight horn section of Tim Garland, Henry Lowther and Mark Nightingale.

The album is set for release in early autumn and yet another record, this time comprising new originals by Jacqui, is in the pipeline too.

In the meantime, she leads her stellar quartet in concert in York tomorrow, playing her own jazz, soul, folk and blues songs and covers of James Taylor, Randy Newman, Sting and Keb Mo numbers. Tickets cost £17, concessions £15, on 01904 658338 or www.ncem.co.uk
