THE closing concert of the 2010 York Early Music Festival brings together a galaxy of star names: Sophie Daneman, Giles Underwood, Rachel Podger, Pamela Thorby and Elizabeth Kenny, pictured, among them.

Elizabeth, who is to join the festival’s artistic advisory panel next year, is the director for tomorrow night’s programme of instrumental music by Robert de Visée and Marc-Antoine Charpentier, ayres from Michael Lambert’s Livre d’Airs de Cour and John Blow’s Venus And Adonis.

In a festival programme with a theme of Musical Marriages, Blow’s work is not a good advert for marriage with its advice from Venus that the best way to keep a man is to “use him very ill”. Daneman takes the role of Venus, Underwood is Adonis.

Theatre of the Ayre, St Michael le Belfrey Church, York, tomorrow at 7.30pm.
