The University of York Concert Series has a change of pianist next Wednesday, October 27, after a strained shoulder put Ian Jones out of action for three weeks.

Steven Osborne, a musician familiar to audiences in the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall, has agreed to step in at short notice. His 7.30pm programme will feature two of the last three sonatas written by Schubert in the final months of his short life. Celia Frisby, the university’s concerts administrator, says: “I’m delighted, and very grateful, that Steven is able to stop off for two days in York on his way back to Edinburgh after a concert at London’s Wigmore Hall. His recital here last November was a huge success and we look forward to welcoming him back.”

Next Thursday, Steven will give a masterclass from 1.30pm to 3.45pm with three first-study pianists who will play pieces by Ravel and JS Bach; admission is free.

Concert tickets cost £5 (students) to £16, available online at yorkconcerts.co.uk or on 01904 432439.
