Rock Choir is coming to York, Harrogate and Knaresborough with its open invitation to partake in singing in rock, pop, gospel and Motown songs.

“There are no auditions and no previous singing experience is required to join Rock Choir, so this feel-good singing phenomenon is available to everyone,” says Stef Conner, leader of the York Rock Choir.

“People from all walks of life and of all ages join Rock Choir, as well as shy individuals who up until now might only enjoy singing along to the car radio or in the shower.”

New Rock Choirs will start in North Yorkshire next week, opening with a free taster session for anyone who would like to participate.

York Rock Choir will rehearse each week on Thursday evenings at Shepherd Hall, St Olave’s School, Clifton, York; Harrogate Rock Choir, on Tuesday evenings at the St Robert’s Centre, Robert Street, Harrogate; and Knaresborough Rock Choir, on Monday evenings at The Castle Room, Gracious Street Methodist Church, Gracious Street, Knaresborough. Sessions will run from 8pm to 9.30pm and a ten-week term costs £100.

Rock Choir’s weekly rehearsals enable the most amateur of singers to learn a variety of contemporary songs ready to perform to an audience within weeks.

“It’s amazing that most people who come along to try out Rock Choir for their free taster session don’t necessarily think they are very good singers at all,” says Stef. “We firmly believe anyone can sing and the beautiful rich sound 30 or more people in Rock Choir can make after just a few weekly sessions is incredible.”

Stef is part of a talented music team at Rock Choir and was chosen for her dynamic and caring personality and advanced teaching and musical skills.

“Rock Choir’s lively and entertaining weekly sessions are designed to build confidence among its members,” says choir publicist Jo Spouncer. “As the weeks go by, individuals make friends, feel a natural high from singing and start to believe perhaps for the first time in their lives they can sing after all. “After their first opportunity to perform in public, Rock Choir members feel an enormous sense of pride and achievement and any shyness is usually forgotten. Members are nurtured each step of the way, however, and if they prefer to take small steps towards their first performance, they are welcome to.”

Many people report life-changing experiences by being in Rock Choir as their new found confidence helps them in other areas of their lives, says Jo.

“Some people choose to try Rock Choir to help them through difficult times while others join with a friend or family member just for fun,” she adds. “However, for most it offers an enjoyable and fulfilling challenge and great sense of achievement.”

Members can look forward to singing unique Rock Choir arrangements of ABBA hits, including Mamma Mia and Waterloo, Motown classics Dancing In The Street and You Can’t Hurry Love and emotional, uplifting anthems such as Labi Siffre’s (Something Inside) So Strong.
