YORK guitar shop MOR Music is presenting the first York Guitar Weekend tomorrow and Sunday.
Highlights include Francis Dunnery doing an acoustic set and meet and greet at the shop in Fossgate; Jamie Humphries demonstrating Musicman guitars and talking about Lick Library; and the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all guitarists to take part in a Guinness World Record Attempt at MOR Music.
At the hub of the event will be product demos, Guitar Weekend deals and competitions at the shop.
The Red Lion, Merchantgate, plays host to The 2-Day Charity Guitar Fest and Fibbers is running The Saturday All-Dayer from 11am to 11pm with free entry to see Maven Fiction; Flails; And The Hangnails; 1/0; Hot Fudge; Tom Kay; Jonny Dobbs; Littlemores; Captain Zippy; Boss Caine; Morpheus Rising; A Ritual Spirit; Mantra; and headliners The Pat McManus Band, from 9pm to 10.30pm.
On Sunday, York Guitar Fair at Fibbers features guitar and amp bargains, live music, valuations, repair workshops, guitar-makers and demonstrations, and that night Clive Carroll plays at the Black Swan Folk Club.
Mojito’s bar and Mexican restaurant, in Museum Street, will be holding charity gigs throughout the weekend, starting tonight. Ben Parcell, Prowl, Andrew Clegg, Emma Hallows, The Remedy Project, David Swann and Rachel Fox-Evans all will be playing.
Proceeds from various events, including the York Guitar Weekend Charity Treasure Hunt, will go to SNAPPY, the William Rhodes Appeal, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, St Leonard’s Hospice, York Against Cancer and Blue Cross, the animal welfare charity in Thirsk.
Suitable for all ages, the treasure hunt involves finding six guitars hidden around York and bringing your completed form back to MOR Music for a chance to win a prize. MOR Music will donate these guitars to the six charities after the weekend to use, raffle or auction.
