A woman found sleeping in a bedroom of an Atlanta-area home rented by pop star Justin Bieber told officers that she had come to the house for the singer's birthday party and realised she was too late for it, according to a police report.

Qianying Zhao, 23, of nearby Doraville was found at the home shortly after 5pm on March 6 and charged with criminal trespass, Sandy Springs police said. The house is owned by music producer Dallas Austin and is being rented by Bieber, police said. Ashley Austin, 20, lives there and came home to find Zhao in one of the bedrooms.

"Austin said that she did not know Zhao, and had no idea how she got into her house," the report stated.

Police said Zhao told officers that she claimed to be a friend of Bieber's, and had entered through an unlocked door of the home on Northside Drive, just north of Atlanta. No one was home.

"She said that she met him on the internet Twitter and was visiting him for a birthday party," the police report stated. "She realised that she was too late for the party, so she decided to wait there for him."

Police said Bieber's party had been held earlier in the week at another place.

Zhao was handcuffed and taken to an Alpharetta jail. It wasn't immediately known whether she has legal representation.

It was the second time in just over a week that police have responded to a problem related to the pop star.

On February 25, police pulled over an SUV being used by the singer and his entourage after a photographer said his camera was stolen as he tried to take pictures of Bieber at the Sandy Springs Funhouse family entertainment complex. Bieber's bodyguard, Hugo Hesny, faces a felony charge in that case. Bieber was not involved in the alleged theft, police said.
