VIENNA Festival Ballet is touring Britain from September to December in Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, including York tomorrow.

Founded by Austrian dancer Peter Mallek in 1980 after his illustrious dancing career, the company features graduates from the Royal Ballet School, British, Australian and Italian soloists, and guest stars from Vienna and South Africa. Productions are marked by lavish hand-made costumes and head dresses. The Nutcracker revolves around Clara and her Nutcracker doll, which magically transforms into a princely soldier. Their adventures see Clara and the doll combat the Mouse King and join the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier on a journey through a shimmering winterland to a kingdom made entirely of sweets.

This will be Vienna Festival Ballet’s second visit of 2013 to the Grand Opera House, where they performed The Sleeping Beauty in April.
