ONE of York’s most successful stage shows could be steaming off to America.
Bosses at York Theatre Royal have confirmed they are looking at the possibility of setting up productions of The Railway Children in New York and Los Angeles.
The show is already set for a run in Canada this summer after wowing audiences in York and London and scooping a string of awards. Potential new homes for the production are now at the discussion stage.
The Railway Children became an immediate hit when it was unveiled at the National Railway Museum in 2008 and returned for a second run the following year, which led to it securing a new showcase in the former Eurostar terminal at Waterloo Station in London.
This attracted 165,000 more visitors.
Now the Theatre Royal has its sights set on the Canadian adventure, which will see the production staged in a specially-built, 1,000-seat theatre in Toronto’s Railway Heritage Museum.
Earlier this month, the production claimed the Best Entertainment gong at the 35th Laurence Olivier awards, the most prestigious theatre awards in Britain, with the London show also being nominated for Best Sound Design.
