CAMPAIGNERS fighting York’s biggest housing development have demanded guarantees it will not put their homes at risk, after this week’s floods.

The site for the 700-home Germany Beck scheme, approved in 2007 following a public inquiry, stands on a flood plain, and heavy rain this week saw the A19 as well as Main Street in Fulford blocked for the second time in two months.

Residents say sewerage problems meant waste being washed up in the area. Coun Aspden said: “It is very difficult for them to understand the rationale for Germany Beck when the area is experiencing such frequent flooding, and there are very real fears that the development will make the situation worse.”
