THE Brass Monkey Half Marathon due to take place in York tomorrow has been cancelled due to snow.
The York Knavesmire Harriers organised annual event cannot go ahead as the compacted snow on the route is too slippy to be safe, organisers have said.
A spokesman said: "We regret that after having taken a final course inspection at 12.30pm today, in the interest of the safety of all runners and volunteers the race has been cancelled.
"The Race memento T-shirt will be available to be collected on Sunday at the venue . A club representative will be able to collect on behalf of their club entrants.
"The decision was not taken lightly and we appreciate how hard you have trained, your eagerness to run and the inconvenience to those who made travel arrangements."
Now in its 31st year, the half-marathon route takes in Bishopthorpe, Acaster Selby, Appleton Roebuck and the racecourse.
