A YORK councillor has objected to a new service station and 50-bedroom hotel on the outskirts of York.
Plans submitted to City of York Council could see the lodge-style hotel, petrol station and café built near the Hopgrove roundabout, with almost 200 parking spaces.
Coun Keith Orrell, of Huntington and New Earswick, said: “Local residents will be concerned about the loss of Green Belt land in this area and the impact such a large development will have on existing traffic issues. It is also worth noting that the land flooded last year.
“A key part of the developer’s reasoning is that there is a supposed 42-mile ‘gap’ in provision on the A64 between the services at Bilbrough and Staxton.
“However, this ignores the fact that during this time the road passes York and therefore numerous petrol stations and facilities. I am working with council officers to seek further clarification on this point.”
