A CAMERAMAN from York is cycling 1,000 miles across Europe to film an attempt to run 39 marathons in 30 days.

Richard O’Hare, who works for Orillo Productions in York, is following three friends who set up the charity Love 146, which campaigns against the trafficking of children in Europe.

He will film the journey from Odessa, Ukraine, to Dubrovnik, Croatia, and the company will make a documentary which they hope to enter into awards.

The runners have got to do a marathon every day during the month of April, with only four rest days planned in.

Richard will capture it all on film, and spend his rest time editing hours of footage and sending the highlights back to the team back in York, which is making smaller, three-minute edits to keep supporters updated every few days.

So far Richard has followed the runners on his bike, along with all the camera equipment from Odessa to Bulgaria, marking just over 464 miles by day 15 of the adventure.

Richard, who has been sleeping under the stars or staying with friendly locals after the team packed a two-man tent instead of a four-man one, said following a tough 50-mile day: “I’m sat here in the outside section of a café it’s raining, cold and the lads are having a very tough day because the conditions are hindering their running.

"I’m asking random locals if I can stay at their house, and I’m definitely not smelling my best after living on my bike for the last 15 days. Sounds grim, but its actually amazing, one of the most incredible things I have ever done and filmed.”

The Run For Love 1,000 aims to raise £150,000 to create the first national programme dedicated to the care and recovery of children who have been trafficked as slaves into and within the UK.
