A STUDENT from Selby has thanked supporters for helping fund his Edinburgh Festival show.
Rhys Chamberlain, from Osgodby, runs Gaffball Productions, whose show, 1,000 Suns, is due to run at the festival this month.
In June, The Press reported how he appealed to the public to help raise money to take the show to Edinburgh, where he believed he would be the youngest producer.
Rhys, 20, said: “We pulled in £1,050, and we were aiming for £1,000, which we’re really pleased with. We’ve had a lot of general support and it’s been nice to see funders coming from quite a wide area.
“Obviously, we’ve had family helping us out, but people who we’ve known but maybe not seen for a long time have been putting money where their mouths are, supporting us and wishing us well with it.”
The show is an acoustic folk rock musical set in post-apocalyptic America, and Rhys and his cast are currently in the final week of rehearsals before travelling to Scotland.
The 11-strong cast, four-piece band and four crew members will travel to Edinburgh on Sunday. The show is due to play at a 118-seat venue, with tickets already selling for the two-week duration.
Rhys said: “We have achieved a lot over the last few weeks with the funding coming through, and we’re really excited again, and can’t wait to get up there and show everyone what we’ve got.
“We just want to thank everyone for the support they’ve given and we hope to see people up there if they can make it. I’m quite pleased wth how many tickets we’ve sold across the two weeks, it’s nice to know we’re not going to be playing to an empty house.”
Donations can still be made towards the show, by visiting wefund.com, or by emailing rhys@gaffball.com
