THE work of childcare professionals, volunteers, parents and carers will be celebrated at a York event next week.

York Racecourse will stage the sixth annual No Wrong Doors conference next Friday, with the keynote speaker being Public Health England’s director of children, young people and families Ann Hoskins. She will outline how supporting children early improves their prospects for the future.

The event is organised by YorOK, which represents all organisations working with children and young people in York, and City of York Council, with more than 200 people involved in this area sharing ideas for support.

It will include interactive presentations and workshops from young people on promoting good mental health and the benefits of the Duke of Edinburgh course to the York Inclusion Group, which helps young people with disabilities.

“I feel, as a city, we have been able to develop our understanding of the issues facing our young people year on year, and the partnership between the council and the practitioners doing the hard work on the frontline across the city is stronger than ever,” said Coun Janet Looker, cabinet member for education, children and young people’s services.

The conference will be held in the Voltigeur Suite at the Racecourse and more information is at yorok.org.uk/nowrongdoor.
