A MAN was attacked with pieces of wood and golf clubs in broad daylight in York.
The 28-year-old was in Lowther Street at 12.35pm on Saturday when he was assaulted by a group of men.
He was taken to York Hospital with a head injury but has since been discharged. Three York men, two aged 18 and one aged 19, have been arrested.
Police believe the weapons with which the man was attacked had been stolen from a shed in a nearby street.
Lowther Street was cordoned off by police for about three hours while police investigated.
The offenders had fled by the time police arrived but officers have since arrested three men, who remain in custody.
Detective Sergeant Rebecca Dyer of York CID, said: “Although this was an alarming incident for local people who saw it unfold in the middle of a residential street, I would like to reassure residents that we believe that the incident was confined to people who knew each other and that the wider community, although shocked by the incident, were not at risk of violence from the offenders.
“We need to gather as much information as possible and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident who has not already come forward, to please contact us as soon as possible.”
