>> 5.45pm UPDATE - The lights have been fixed and tailbacks have begun to clear.
TRAFFIC lights stuck on red in York city centre have been causing lengthy rush-hour tailbacks.
The lights at the junction of Morrisons and Foss Islands Road were stuck on red for a spell this afternoon, causing long tailbacks around the Foss Island junction in all directions.
A spokesperson for City of York Council said: "We are aware of the situation and have informed the police. An engineer is on the way to the scene to get them fixed as soon as possible."
