Humberside Fire and Rescue Crews were called to the scene at about 315pm. The vehicle is a meat lorry which visits several local markets. The fire broke out while it was being driven, but the cause is not yet known.
The driver escaped unhurt. The fire has been put out but firefighters remained on the scene this evening.
Mr Kirby said he was working at Langlands when a colleague said the lorry was on fire, near McDonald's.
He said fire crews arrived after ten to 15 minutes, and said: "Smoke was thick black and blowing back over the roundabout at Shiptonthorpe."
