A COMMUNITY centre in Acomb will stand in for the local police station for the next two months.
Acomb Police station is to undergo repairs and refurbishment for the next eight to ten weeks, with its role being taken over by Sanderson House Community Centre in Bramham Road, Chapelfields, from Tuesday (APR 22).
The centre will host the volunteer front desk from Acomb Police Station, and act a local base for the local Safer Neighbourhood Team, to assist the public between set hours.
Chapelfields Community Association Treasurer, Andrew Waller said: “The Chapelfields Community Association is keen to support the local police in providing a base for the team and volunteers to work from during the time that Acomb Police Station is out of action.
"It saves police time during the day rather than having to keep going across to Clifton Moor Police Station. It also keeps the volunteer police desk in the Acomb area which the association felt was important to maintain contacts with the public. We are working around existing bookings to keep this valuable community service.”
Front counter enquiry services will be available at Sanderson Court Community Centre (YO26 5AR) at the following times: Monday: 10am to noon; Tuesday: 2pm to 4pm; Wednesday: 6pm to 8pm; Thursday: 6pm to 8pm; Friday: 2pm to 4pm; Saturday: 10am to noon; Sunday: Closed
Incidents should still be reported through the 101 non-emergency number or 999 in an emergency.
