IT WASN’T a victim of Beeching’s axe. Haxby railway station closed way back in 1930, but there are promising signs that it could soon be open for business again.
York Outer MP Julian Sturdy has met with the rail minister to make the case and tells us Haxby is now one of the top four stations in the region being considered for reopening.
This would be a welcome move. We have always said it would be a positive addition to the city’s infrastructure, by helping to reduce congestion.
But there is the little matter of a looming General Election. Let’s just hope whichever party takes power in May will also commit to this plan.
