THE annual Lord Mayor’s fashion show has been hailed a huge success after it raised more than £1,000 for York charities.
The event raised cash for this year’s two civic charities, the York Teaching Hospital Charity (YTHC) and York Against Cancer.
Maria Humphrey, fundraising assistant at YTHC, said: “It was such a fantastic event, the atmosphere was incredible.
“After overcoming their nerves, the models did a great job on the catwalk, especially having never done it before. Fenwick and Browns brought along some lovely new fashions, too.
“We’re really grateful to everyone who gave up their time for the event and for such a good cause, and to everyone who attended, helping to raise a total of over £1,670.”
The funds raised during Cllr Ian Gillies year in office as Lord Mayor will go towards buying York Against Cancer a new minibus to transport patients from York to Leeds for cancer treatments, and will help YTHC buy a new life-saving haemodialysis machine for patients in York.
Hosted by BBC Radio York’s Elly Fiorentini, the fashion show took place in the Guildhall and was attended by Lady Mayoress Pat Gillies and Sheriff’s Lady Jill Kenny and included fashions from Fenwick and Browns department stores.
