DEVELOPERS have lodged a bid to build 65 new homes on land near Selby.

A scheme has been submitted to planners at Selby District Council to construct 65 new homes on land at North Duffield.

Developers KCS Development want to build the new homes on a 3.8 hectare site close to Beech Grove and High Field Lane, which is currently agricultural fields.

A report submitted with the plans said the new housing would be a mix of three and four-bedroom detached, and two and three bedroom semi-detached houses.

If given the go ahead, the site would be accessed by a new junction from York Road, and footpaths would link the site to Main Street and the local village, and KCS would also create a new community football pitch with parking, a changing room/clubhouse and associated access for the area.

Four local residents have objected to the proposals through the council, including Andrew Kisby, who said he was unhappy with the size of the development, which has increased from previous planning submissions of around 29 homes.

Mr Kisby said if a smaller scale development were proposed along with upgrades to the village's schools, sewerage and gas systems, he may remove his objection.

He said: "The scale of this development is too large.

"The current village infrastructure is already under severe strain, the sewerage is already at capacity and is struggling to cope, the school is oversubscribed - where will children from 65 additional dwellings go to school?"

Another resident, Emma Wykes, said: "This village cannot accommodate such a large number of properties being built. The school is not large enough, and the site of the school does not allow for further building and the roads are already busy enough, without further increasing this by at least 65 cars."

A decision on the plans is due in December.
