DOZENS of scarecrows stalked the streets in two areas of York this weekend, as both held their annual May Day celebrations.
Both Haxby and Dunnington held their scarecrow festivals over the bank holiday weekend, and between them residents of the two villages created scores of eye-catching characters to keep visitors entertained.
In Haxby and Wigginton, the Methodist Church's scarecrow festival this year reached its 10th anniversary. Fran Marchant and her family created an Angry Birds themed display - and turned it into a fundraising event bringing in nearly £250 for St Leonard's Hospice at the same time in memory of her father who was cared for in the hospice.
Proceeds from the six scarecrow trails created around the town are being donated to several York charities - including St Leonards and the York Flood Appeal.
In Dunnington, more than 50 scarecrows appeared on the streets - from a resting cyclist to a an impressive Wizard of Oz display.
