YORK’S inaugural Micklegate Soapbox Challenge was won by Focus Fireplaces, with The League of Yorkshire Gentlemen’ from Trans2 Logistics in second place and York Digital Image coming third.

But there were several other awards, including:

  • Best Novelty theme – Paragon Creative Ltd for their Roman horse and chariot
  • Best design and build – Safestay, Micklegate
  • Most innovative design – ‘Living with a Lion, raising money for Diabetes Awareness
  • Best turned out  - ‘Hallo from the Other Side’ from York Maze
  • Best pre-run routine – Pontefract Young Farmers
  • Most Funds Raised – ‘The Snappaholics’ from Snappy, York
  • Most Memorable Moment – The Mighty Punch Bowl’ of Blossom Street, whose wheels came straight off
  • Judges Hearts Award – Millthorpe School
